Research led us to create a common homepage for business or personal customers, striking careful balance to communicate to the two user groups. For the first time, brand elements like the signature ‘chevrons’ were being implemented on the website to showcase the Canada Post brand, aligning it with the retail brand. Brand messages were crafted to represent Canada Post’s history, legacy and role in the lives of Canadians. Careful consideration was given to the photography used on the page and across the site, to position CPC as an inclusive and supportive company in Canada.

Atomic Design

We tackled the website redesign with the atomic design system approach, breaking down components into smaller elements in order to create consistency, efficiency and a system that was replicable across teams within the organization.

Starting with global styling like typography, colour palettes and clickable elements that kept in mind visual accessibility, we built those foundational elements into more complex components and widgets.

Responsive & Accessible Components

With smaller elements styled and in place, they could be put together to create more complex components. These components were designed to work across various breakpoints - desktop, tablet and mobile. They also had accessibility measures built in, which means users would be able to access components with keyboard tabbing. Visually impaired users had a sufficient contrast for ease of legibility and screen readers would be able to read-aloud page-level content with the right tagging.

Page Templates, CMS and Content Components

We created a suite of templates that consisted of content components, that could be accessed from the CMS to create easy, drag-and-drop layouts. This resulted in a faster turnaround time to create and publish pages that were consistent, beautiful and on-brand without needing a developer to custom-code a page each time, unless customization was required. The result was a much faster speed-to-market for new products, marketing campaigns and information updates.
